Wild PNG 9 Days Fishing
Using Nuakata and Leilei Gana Islands as our base and accommodation, we'll hit the inshore and offshore reefs around the edge of the inner Milne Bay region. Here we'll find ourselves among some serious pelaegic fish and you'll need quality, heavy gear to fish here successfully.
- Stay at both Nuakata and Leilei Gana Islands
- Live absolute beach front with fishing, snorkelling and spear fishing right off the beach in front of your accommodation
- Target the serious offshore pelaegics like Spanish Mackeral, Wahoo, Yellow Fin Tuna, Dog Tooth Tuna and a world of large reef species.
- Relax by the fire at night and tell stories with the local host families
- Share your catch daily with remote and isoloated family communites we pass during our days fishing
- Visit uninhabited islands, relax on the beaches, enjoy the simple pleasure of a shady coconut tree
In our opinion, the 9 and 11 day aventures are the perfect amount of time to spend in a remote area fishing before the desirte to head back to the comforts of civilization start to kick in. It's plenty of time to target the serious fish hanging out on the deep water drop offs of the offshore reefs, work the pressure side of the inshore reefs and spend time chasing the huge reef fish in the shallows of the reefs.
You'll stay between Nuakata Island and Leilei Gana Island which will bring new reef systems to you daily, or you can revisit the same ones as you learn the best places and times to fish particular drop offs. The most common fishing is trolling the deep water drop offs for huge pelaegics and trolling across the shallow parts of the reefs for some serious reef critters. We've seen guests with Coral Trout up to 15kg using this method. We also recommend casting straight off the beach of a deserted island for some trevally action just for a change and the sheer fun of it.
You'll have a dedicated Banana Fishing Boat for each 2 guests and 200l of fuel to use as you see fit. That's plenty of fuel for the 9 days, but we recommend you plan your routes to make the most of it. Extra fuel is available if you'd like to purchase it during the adventure, but it's expensive to have delivered to us and takes a minimum of 24 hours to reach us. You can share fuel among the boats in the tour group as some boats will use less and some will use more. We recommend simply making a plan every day with your skipper so that you'll be able to plan your fuel consumption for each day. Typical;ly, we find 200l is plenty for the duration of the adventure to fish inshore and offshore reefs.
You'll stay in twin share acommodation in our traditional Wild PNG accommodation bungalows. These bungalows are made with traditional and locally sourced materials and provide a cool place to relax in the heat of the day and will keep you dry at night if we get some rain.
Our diet is predominantly sea food based with local vegetables and some timmed goods and rice as well. As this adventure is longer than the shorter adventures, we can often source crayfish and mudcrabs on request. If you think you'd like a night of crayfish on the fire, please let us know as we need about 24 hours to get this organized.
